Oxygen Saturation, Calculated

Calculate the oxygen saturation from the pO2.

Input pO2   torr

Oxygen Saturation  =   %

The calculations above are based on the equation developed by Severinghaus*:

SO2 = (23,400 * (pO23 + 150 * pO2)-1 + 1)-1

This is only an estimate and does not account for differences in temperature, pH, and concentrations of 2,3 DPG.

See also the interactive Oxyhemoglobin Dissociation Curve that does take into account temperature and pH. It was created by Dr. Dave Sainsbury, MBBS, BMedSc(Hons), FANZCA. Department of Paediatric Anaesthesia, Women's & Children's Hospital, North Adelaide, South Australia.
